Zoon Airlines Beach Aquathlon

The first Zoom Airlines Brighton Beach Aquathlon was held during the recent Paddle Round the Pier festival. I say held, more like survived with gale force winds and the threat of severe downpours making it a test for organisers and competitors alike.

A dramatically altered and shortened swim course allowed the event to go ahead which caused much consternation to the stronger swimmers amongst the field. With comments like “it was like swimming in a washing machine,” being used all swimmers negotiated and seemed to enjoy the 150m swim before heading out on to the run. The run was a 4.5km three lap promenade run that allowed for lots of motivational cheering from the supporters, especially appreciated for those taking part in their first multi sport event.

The race was won by Shaun Challis for the men and Katy Taylor leading the women home. Check out the photos for some of the action.

Part of the Paddle festival the aquathlon helped to raise £20k for the chosen charities so thank you for all entrants.

We hope that there will be several aquathlons using this ideal location next summer with distances to suit everyone whether they are a swimmer or runner so please check the website for news or email hedge@metpahorevents.co.uk to be included in a mailing list for all future events.

Metaphor Events is pleased to announce that despite the rain doing its best efforts to ruin the day, well over 3000 people turned out to make the Brighton and Hove Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile event a huge success.

With runners opting to take the three and six mile challenges as well as the one mile challenge and with plenty of people running in fancy dress it was a wonderful day of colour, atmosphere and fulfilment.

Supported by local celebrities and many of the sporting clubs of Sussex there was something for everyone who decided to brave the conditions of the day. Check out some of the pictures below to see if you notice anyone familiar.

Metaphor Events would like to thank all the volunteers and clubs who made the effort to ensure that the whole event went so well. Lots of money was raised for the Sport Relief charities and Brighton and Hove had one of the most successful turnouts in the country.

Withdean Duathlon

Sunday 27 April saw the 2008 running of the Withdean Duathlon and for once the rain and wind held off and the race was held in gorgeous spring sunshine.

Making the most of the good racing conditions the times were considerably faster than recent races with Christophe Declerck taking the honours in the men’s race ahead of Jez Cox and James Deer clocking 1.33.02

In the women’s event Kerry McGawley led home Natasha Fuller and Emily McLoughlin to win in 1.49.32

I would like to thank all competitors and marshals for coming along on the day. I look forward to seeing you all next year.
